Batería de San Juan

The military infrastructure, carved in stone on the hill, began to be built in 1898 and its construction lasted seven years. As a defensive structure, it was not an efficient construction, described in documents as a defence element too exposed to attack and with a shooting perspective that gave too little angle of vision. Nevertheless, the site still has a magnetic aura despite more than half a century of non-use. That was the reason why, at the request of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the Government of the Canary Islands recognised it in 2018 as an Asset of Cultural Interest and classified it as a monument. Its value is indisputable, as from its height it is possible to see a large part of the urban landscape of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in all directions.
