In the Eye of the Whale is a theatre project loosely inspired by Moby Dick, born inside the Ariano Irpino prison in southern Italy through a creative process led by Enzo Mirone with incarcerated participants. After being developed in other prisons and theatres in Italy, the project now arrives in Gran Canaria through a collaboration between Mirone and the Sociocultural Association Travesía, a key organisation in prison theatre on the island.

Its arrival carries special symbolism: the first Hollywood film adaptation of Moby Dick was shot in 1954 on Las Canteras Beach and El Confital, linking this new staging with the cultural history of the city. A work that connects territories, stories and communities, highlighting theatre’s transformative power.
