Mahmud and Not Only Mahmud tells a true story through spoken word, acrobatics and live music. The show follows a young Senegalese man who leaves his hometown in search of work in a neighbouring country, just as a civil war breaks out.

What was meant to be a simple journey becomes a nightmare shaped by the legacy of colonialism, the absence of safe and legal mobility routes — intensified by European funding for migration control in countries such as Niger and Morocco — as well as labour exploitation and racism.
